BERKSHIRE GASTROENTEROLOGY CENTRE
Private Gastroenterologist
The digestive system is extremely intricate so problems can be hard to diagnose. We conduct a range of advanced investigations to diagnose conditions as quickly as possible – sometimes even on the first day that the patient comes in.
Dr Nish Chandra MBBS FRCP, a consultant gastroenterologist with over 12 years experience, works in prestigious NHS and private hospitals in Reading, England. He sees patients with a variety of digestive problems and uses a multidisciplinary approach (involving colleagues from other specialties as needed) to ensure the best possible outcome for his patients.
Appointments for consultations and endoscopic procedures can be made by contacting (by telephone or email ) Dr Chandra’s PA, Ms Danielle Spencer. Dr Chandra is happy to accept referrals from GPs, consultant colleagues and patients directly (self-referrals).

THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM & HOW IT WORKS
What is the digestive system?
The digestive system is made up of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract—also called the digestive tract—and the liver, pancreas, and gallbladder. The GI tract is a series of hollow organs joined in a long, twisting tube from the mouth to the anus. The hollow organs that make up the GI tract are the mouth, oesophagus, stomach, small intestine, large intestine—which includes the rectum—and anus.
Food enters the mouth and passes to the anus through the hollow organs of the GI tract. The liver, pancreas, and gallbladder are the solid organs of the digestive system. The digestive system helps the body digest food. Find out more…
